What is a Credentialed Parliamentarian and Why does it Matter?
PRPs (Professional Registered Parliamentarians) and RPs (Registered Parliamentarians) are members of the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) who have earned formal credentials in parliamentary procedure. These professionals are skilled in helping organizations hold fair, productive, and well-organized meetings.
Depending on their experience and focus, PRPs and RPs may:
- Serve as professional meeting chairs or presiders
- Lead educational sessions or training workshops
- Offer advice on meeting rules and procedures
- Help update or rewrite bylaws and other governing documents
- Support board chairs and committees in following proper process
Both credentials represent a high level of expertise, but they reflect different stages of training. An RP is qualified to advise most organizations on common meeting needs and to serve as a parliamentarian in typical settings. A PRP goes a step further—this advanced credential recognizes both deeper knowledge and proven practical experience. Both RPs and PRPs are committed to following the NAP Code of Professional Responsibility to ensure high ethical and professional standards.
For details about becoming credentialed or learning more about these designations, visit the National Association of Parliamentarians at www.parliamentarians.org.
